Everytime I connect to my windows share where my mp3s are, xbmc takes forever to do a directory listing, like it's caching all the media and cddb stuff to disk. I set the caches in the options to 0kb and turned off caching on my windows share. when I connect to my samba shares however, there's no such issue. anyone know how to fix this?

Which kind of share is giving you problems if it isn't SMB?

cifs (windows share) I guess I think of samba shares on computers running linux as samba shares..

I'm not sure there is a way to fix it... I think the problem is inherent to the way in which XBMC handles that particular type of share... You could consolidate your music share so that there are less files in the directory (that'd be a worst case scenario, but it works).

yeah I figured out that if I just clear the database and playlists and set the cache to 4096 for everything it's an instantaneous directory listing.

strange..
