ok so I was playing Madden last night and my PS2 started making a lot of noise while reading the disc. It sounded like a scraping sound, the gameplay got real choppy and the commentating became very delayed.

First do you think it was the game or is it the laser? I tried another game it made the same noise only not as loud.

any suggestions on remedying the situation.

FYI this is an older unit, it was the GT3 racing pack edition.

Sounds like something physically wrong with the ps2.... try standing it up (or if it is up, lay it down) and see if the problem continues.

It's definitely the laser. Have you ever gotten any Disc Read Errors (especially for discs with blue-bottoms)?

If you're still under warranty, you could send it back in to Sony and they should fix it for free or something. You can also fix it yourself by opening it up, cleaning the lens and/or readjusting the height of the laser.

i bought my ps2 the week it came out. Just recently I got a disc read error. I boxed that shit up and took it back to walmart... no reciept, but i did have the box. They gave me a brand new slim ps2. Just something you might want to consider.
