OK so i think i need new computer speakers. whenever i play an MP3 on the comp there is a lot of static and distortion. I know the MP3s are not bad so the problem must be the speakers, the only thing that confuses me is that for some reason the speakers seem to work fine for other applications, like games for example. i only et static on MP3s? why

Could possibly be the player?

^ Yeah, try a different player. If the speakers are only 'staticy' when playing mp3's, then it's not the speakers.

it could be your soundcard too. something went terribly wrong with my old audigy and it started doing something kind of like that. I reseated the card and reinstalled the drivers and it worked fine. the problem wasn't quite "static though, but instead random tones during mp3 playback (almost like modem noise on crack.) might be a different issue for you then.

if you do end up getting new speakers, the Logitech X-530's are pretty good for how much they cost ~$50.
