Anyone know of any good mechanics in Raleigh? Ive got a guy here in Charlotte who has taken care of my two diesel Suburbans since we bought them and he knows them in and out. Ive only had to suck it up and go to Sears in Raleigh for batteries and tires once, and that was enough. Any suggestions?

What you want done? I ain't afraid of no diesel. I do work on the side.

If you want to take it to a bona fide shop, I got a friend that works for Cricket's in Cary. He knows his shit.

^^^ he is the sole cause of global warming, if there are two things an old school gm diesel is good for, its smoking like a freight train and dropping valves through the pistons.

get rid of the egr valve and put a performance injector pump on there, itll turn that smoke into power, and yes those things are horrible on engine driven accesoories, the vibration is so bad, they often strip the keyway on the balancer and wear out belt tensioners, alternators and steering pumps like crazy, a fluid damper balancer will quadruple the life of the engine accesories, i used to mess with those damn things al the time at my old shop, the county had a whole fleet of them

Shit...throw about two quarts of automatic tranny fluid in that bastard...cleans up those injectors (provided they're not worn out) like damn near nothing else. I used to do a quart with every fillup.

The cool thing about the old 6.2 is that it was truly built for efficiency. Has one of the best combustion chambers for that purpose (rechamber, Ricardo V chamber).

She ain't a HARD puller and isn't built for such. But she'll creep along all day on a little bit of fuel.
