i broke mine the other day. those things are expensive, too, especially the full set
the way i went around it, i cut the old link in half, then put it in the vise and knocked the old pins out with a hammer and a punch (a nail would work too). then i put a new Quicklink on with a set of plyers (or channellocks or visegrips) 8/15/2005 12:03:57 AM |

are you changing sprockets?
here's what i did if the old chain will fit on the new sprockets. I changed the sprokets and left the old chain on there. then i rode up to the bike shop with my new chain and asked them to put it on. that way i could use a master link rather than a quicklink and i didn't have to buy the tool.
they actually didn't charge me anything for it since it takes all of like 10 minutes.
I went by and asked them if they would do that for me first, and I was willing to pay for it as well, but they said it was no charge, so i wasn't about to complain. 8/15/2005 12:20:56 AM |
