i know the DVD was released yesterday, but it isnt the one i was hoping for w/ all the deleted scenes, etc. i also heard somewhere there would be a release which has all 3 stories seperated with extra scenes added..

any word on this? any one know if/when a better DVD will be released?

Yeah, I bought it even though I knew a Special Edition was on the way eventually. I like the multiple covers you could choose from.

The fact that it's actually 16x9 is the best part of the entire thing.

I thought this movie did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was the first comic book to film movie Ive seen that actually seemed like a comic book. I've never read any of the comics, but the movie was pretty cool.

And I wanted a damn cigarette after about 20 minutes of watching that in teh theater.

Unlike virtually every other movie that's come out recently, Sin City is in a 16x9 (1.85:1) aspect ratio, meaning if you have a widescreen TV (or in our case, projector screen) it fills the entire thing, whereas 16x10 gives you black bars.

Not that I mind black bars, except it's pretty stupid that all widescreen screens are 16x9 and then someone decided "hey, that's not wide enough" and everything went to 16x10.

Ok, first of all, theres no such thing as 16:10...and if there was, it wouldnt be as wide as 16:9. Seriously, where did you hear 16:10...did you just make that up?

16:9 is NOT 1.85:1. 16:9 equals 1.78:1. This is the aspect ratio of HDTV as well as a few movies such as Once Upon a Time in Mexico (which RR shot on 1080p video cameras rather than film).

There are a TON of movies in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio...pick 10 recent movies at random, chances are 4-6 of them are 1.85:1. Yes there are slight black bars with this, but with overscan you will never be able to see the difference.

And to stay on the original topic, theres supposed to be an SE in the not to distant future with each of the "episodes" as a "mini-movie" from what Ive heard, with additional scenes added back in....but since I still havent seen that Kill Bill SE yet, no reason not to get this now, especially if the later doesnt have the theatrical version on it. I picked up the Marv cover....looked like there were tons of the Bruce Willis cover but only a couple of Marv covers...if any of these become worth anything, that will be the one.

I'm well aware of the math. The fact is a 1.85:1 movie fits just about perfectly on a 16x9 TV (Since there are exceedinly few 1.78:1 movies). 2.35:1 doesn't and it's annoying as hell.

As far as 16x10, it's a computer monitor thing that I had confused with 2.35:1 for some reason, despite always realizing the math never worked out. Basically, I fucked that up. My bad.

The majority of movies are flat. I don't know why you're making such a big deal about it.

I dunno if it's very innovative (aside from the source material). I mean, they used the same shit to make Spy Kids 3-D...in the same garage, no less.

yeah i agree, i think this movie had more of a comic book feel than any other comic book movie. with maybe the exception of the incredible hulk

yeah, but the way the scenes were cut made it look like you were reading panels out of a comic book. i thought that was pretty cool, which is why i said it had more of a comic book feel.

The Long Take, a full uninterrupted 17-minute take during the filming of Quentin Tarantino's segment, which features the cast and crew brainstorming and retooling the scene
