Quote :
"Some in the Pentagon are said to be convinced of official Chinese involvement; others see the electronic probing as the work of other hackers simply using Chinese networks to disguise the origins of the attacks."
Big whoop, who's to say we aren't doing the same thing right now.

True dat, but I dont see electronic sparring between hackers indicative of a necessary war. Think about the Cold War. In all that fluanting was there an actual act of aggression or either sides. Nope. And dont count reconaisance(sp?) spy planes cause no one got hurt. well with a few exceptions of pilots crashing, but none the less spy's were returned unharmed for the most part.

Compating this to the Cold war would be stupid.

Just so you know.

The information age is equivalent to the nuclear power age, just so you know. In that it is the main proponent to advances in warcraft. So my comparing them is justified.

So, are you saying that the US is in a Cold War like situation with China?

Plus, if you really compare IT in both places, I think China has already won the war.

Yes and no. China may be a rising idustrial state, but they do not have the know how that our workers in silicon valley have. In my opinion.

The current situation with China is the total opposite of the Cold War. With the USSR, we opposed trade and tried to block their ambitions wherever we could. We are are trading up a storm with China. As long as Taiwan keeps its mouth shut and goes about its business, China will continue to do what is in its best interest: sell cheap crap to Walmart.

What this means for the spread of democracy isn't clear, but my guess is that the current influx of money and pseudo-capitalism will make it much easier for the communist leaders to maintain control. The people will be fat and happy, with little reason to worry about their corrupt government.

But... If Taiwan starts to make a big stink about its sovereignty and independance then all bets are off... China is all about saving face.
