There seems to be a problem with JavaScript with my browser, for example when on websites which use mouse rollover, etc. Normally, I wouldn't care, but in Hotmail, the Delete, forward, reply, etc, buttons function on JavaScript. I have been unable to delete messages for a week now, and have 100+ to delete.

When I point my mouse pointer to a button on hotmail, I get an error box which says:

A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to debug?

Line: XXX (some line number)
Error: "tagName" is null or not an object

Yes No

Is there a JS library file that I can download or that someone can email me?

Thanks.

what browser/version are you using?

are you using any browser externsions/software?

have you tried getting the latest updates for your browser?

There's not much you can do on your side if it's a legit javascript error. It'd be helpful if you posted the line number and what button you clicked on to get the error.

Internet Explorer

Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919-1003

Update Versions: SP1; Q330994; Q822925

No, no browser extensions or addons.

I don't click a button, I simply move the mouse pointer over, say, the delete button in hotmail, and the box pops up requiring me to press yes or no. It mention line 162. I press no, and immediately another identical dialogue box pops up, mentioning line 171. I click no, and it goes away. Same thing whether I move over the reply, or forward, or empty, or any of other buttons. The error box comes even before I can click on the buttons, it is immediate.

This started only recently after my laptop was messing up because of a lot spyware and adware, and I installed some applications to clean it up, and I remember accidentally removing some files that must have caused this. Before that it was OK.

Thanks.

if you think you deleted some necessary files, i would suggest reinstalling internet explorer.

if you have windows XP, you can remove it using add/remove windows components (instructions for other versions of windows can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q293907).

You can download IE 6 at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx#EDAA or add it in windows XP in the add/remove components screen.

I don't really know what else to do to fix the problem.
