So I bought this heatsink, looks like it'd be awesome, some good reviews....

Well, the clip is impossible to attach, I had problems with it shorting on the motherboard, and now, the thermal compound is shot to shit, cause I finally got my BIOS diagnostics and they read 141C!!! My little P4 somehow kept truckin', I don't know how, I don't care, but does...
Somebody have some Artic Silver III I can borrow?

All you need is heat sink compound? The stock p4 thermal paste is the best that you can buy. 8/28/2005 1:40:59 AM |

Why would you want that heatsink? 8/28/2005 4:31:13 AM |

I got it because it is a fanless heatsink, moving the old box into the living room and don't want to be bothered by the noise. I was using the stock Intel cooler, and that thing would rev up and sound like a hair dryer. I have a 120mm fan on here, and it should do just fine, once I get some good thermal compound under it.
And, I'm not going for pretty, damn thing is going to be unseen anyway, but it honestly looks like a small four cylinder engine in my PC.

^ agreed, full speed it is not noticable with other background noise in the room, with just it running it is barely audable. Coupled with some AS5 it was well worth it.
Now, the HS that was posted is just rediculous. I would be afraid to stand my box back up after attaching that thing. Good thing its now all copper. 8/28/2005 8:48:34 PM |

hahaha, wow. the picture of the heatsink by itself does not let you see how truly rediculously large it is. 8/28/2005 8:52:59 PM |
