it was pretty good, spent a good amount of time on character introduction. Next week's episode looks good.

I thought it was pretty good. Managed to introduce most of the major players and to get a decent look into life in Rome without dragging things along too much. And it actually did a good job of setting the stage for the remainder of the season.

what era of rome does it take place in, republic or imperial?

^It's in the late republic. Caesar has been in Gaul for around 8 years I think and he and Pompeii have had their falling out, so pretty much right before the civil war.

this series is going to be great methinks

hbo can take over cable television as far as I'm concerned, that will teach Americans to stop being so anal about nudity

i am kinda distraught over how the HOME BOX OFFICE shows nothing but series and documentaries now. you have to buy all 7 of them if you wanna see an actual movie

I give it two thumbs up.

However, Octavia's titties, I give two thumbs down.

ummm.... well if you get cable and order HBO, you get all 7 channels plus HBO-HD for the same price.

i don't think you can just get plain HBO alone

and the other HBO channels have tons of movies

I wonder the actress was really that turned on or if she just iced them down

I thought the mom was the hottest chic on the show. Besides the dark haired chic who got bull blood splattered on her. Octavia was meh, clothed or naked.

The mom was the one who got bull blood splattered on her she just didn't have the red coloring in her hair.

I thought mom implied that her daughter's husband "disappeared" or something on those lines.

i caught it... and was...

bored...

i mean, it basically went through a bunch of stuff that we've all seen acted out in movies and on the history channel and added an element that felt strangely like Xena:Warrior Princess (not necessarily the b00bies, just the story)...

i'll catch the next one, see if the fiction can make up for the fact that the history has been done, too often

I was watching the behind the scenes stuff on the Deadwood DVD and the show's creator David Milch said he had originally pitched a show about centurians in Rome but the producers at HBO weren't impressed. So he came up with Deadwood instead. Milch isn't listed on IMDB as a writer/producer or otherwise for Rome. Makes ya wonder if HBO stole his idea or he sold it off to someone else or what.......

second episode now

I wonder how accurate to history this is

like if Tidus' gambling fight really did destroy any hope of peace

The only thing Im really having trouble following is just how much time has past over the first 2 episodes. We started with Caesar just having defeated the gauls and now at the end of episode 2 hes crossing the rubicon. So am I correct in assuming about 5 years has past in these 2 episodes?

The dates I found have Caesar defeating Gaul in 55 BC, his daughter (pompey's wife) dies in 54, and then he crosses the rubicon in 49 and civil war starts.
