During an interview this morning...
"....For over a year I have been calling on the President to release this oil from our reserves... If ever there was a time, it's now."
Humm... Anyone else see the hilarity in this? I couldn't help but laugh.
Yeah, MR. SCHUMER, if we had been releasing this oil FOR OVER A YEEEAAAR like you've been asking for, then it wouldn't be there NOW when we have a REAL EMERGENCY. 8/30/2005 9:29:03 AM |

If it had hit with full force, at category five strength, MAYBE. 8/30/2005 1:33:23 PM |

But this is a disaster for American oil production. A large chunk of our domestically drilled oil comes from that area off the Gulf Coast. This hurricane has completely trashed that for the near future. Bad enough that a large amount of our refining capacity was shut down because of this hurricane, but to have the oil cut off too would just cream the global oil market.
If Bush really is the evil oil baron that everyone claims he is, then he's gotta tap that reserve. Otherwise, oil and gas prices will rise up too quickly, and people will start turning to conservation and alternatives as they become both more attractive and financially viable instead of just sucking it up and taking the new prices.8/31/2005 4:18:17 PM |

Maybe this'll make everybody realize we need to do offshore drilling up and down the NC/VA coasts, CA coastline, ANWAR, and other places that are loaded with oil. Then we wouldn't be so reliant on one area that can totally fuck our economy when it gets slapped around. 8/31/2005 7:36:12 PM |

I think they pushed to release oil last hurricane season.
Whatever the oil companies take out, they have to put back in. 8/31/2005 7:45:32 PM |

Shit if there was oil in my backfuckingyard I would support drilling there at this point.
What am I saying I grew up all around that shit in southeastern Texas. Oil pumps all over the place. Shit don't look bad at all. Most of them are very little stations that ain't big at all. I'm all over drilling in ANWR and off our coast.
After all, were the beaches in Mississippi hideous before the hurricane thrashed them? Nope. No oil is all over the beaches because the platforms got pwnt. That shit is often so far off shore you can't even see it. And if you can SO WHAT, the ocean is HUGE. A couple little things on the edge of the horizon while your splashing around on the beach ain't a big damn deal. 8/31/2005 10:20:58 PM |

haha, yeah, let me go on the record as saying I FUCKING HATE SPOTTED OWLS AND LITTLE STUPID FLOWERS AND STUFF.
just kidding...i don't know enough about that issue to really comment, but isn't that reserve such a relatively small area that whatever we fuck up by drilling it is essentially inconsequential?
^aren't the beaches near Corpus kinda shitty due to oil and tar and shit in the sand? my buddy from San Antonio said that he's been to the beach at Corpus and had the bottom of his feet turn black.

Shit I don't remember. I do remember going to Corpus a few times and having the time of my life, but we never got in the gulf. It was just so damn hot. We were at some killer hotel that had an indoor/outdoor pool (one of those you can swim thru) so we stayed there the whole time. I do remember riding a couple of those paddle boat things in the Gulf that two people get on, but I don't remember getting my feet nasty or anything.
Have to ask the 'rents on this one though. 8/31/2005 10:26:24 PM |

You are aware the you can't even see the drilling platforms from the coast, right? If the oil was close enough to the coast to see then the companies would drill it from shore. (from one oil derreck they can drill 50 miles parallel to the surface).9/1/2005 12:33:11 AM |
