Yeah, drilling some more is clearly the best long-term solution. 9/1/2005 2:25:50 AM |

If we had done this years ago when people first suggested it, the pumps would be up and running by now.
But by golly, that there would be a few square miles out of an area larger than many states into which the noble caribou could not wander is just downright unacceptable.
You don't just look for the long-term solution. That does us no good now, and if everything goes down the shitter ATM it won't do us any good later, either.

^You would miss them if you lived at that direct site they were proposing. You would need to hunt them to survive and store their meat till you can kill them again. Oh wait.. You wouldn't wanna live there, not a chance in hell. I'm sure the representive eskimo population has something to say though. Oh wait... There is none. A few square miles of arctic tundra isn't gonna make the carribou extinct nor any other seal, polar bear, wolverine, muskox, wolf for that matter. This was some ridiculous protest set up by some insane greenpeace organization. I'm for conservation but not stupidy. Down with the Pope, Up with Dope.

Oil from ANWR wouldn't be available for at least 10 years, and then it would be shipped to Asia because of the proximity of ports and refineries. 9/1/2005 7:21:56 AM |

not worth it. it's just gas. The lives of those animals are more important than saving a few bucks at the pump.9/1/2005 8:13:57 AM |

I'm sure the lives of those bugs, rodents, and other creatures that lived on the land where your house is or where the roads that you drive on weren't worth it though. What about all the deer that die getting hit by cars on the highway just so you can save a few minutes on the way to work? Where do you stop?

No
they aren't.

those aren't endangered. Individuals are importnat, but saving an entire species is more important. When you have gazillions of rodents and insects and a few of them die when we put up a house, sure that's not the greatest thing, but horses and cows kill the flies that are buzzing around them, too. It happens.9/1/2005 9:15:12 AM |

very true.
I guess I would agree with this.

You won't be killing off an entire species. You are talking about a very very small percentage of land up there.9/1/2005 9:18:58 AM |

The unsettled area of Alaska is comparable in size to the entire midwest. It is a massive chunk of land. While I think that the animals there are great, I don't think that they deserve their own state.
After all 2000 acres = 3 square miles.9/1/2005 11:11:13 AM |
