ok, i am down with some poker

how about a 20 buy in (or 40) every week or two?

Don't lose that much and it's a good time anyway.

Thursdays, Wednesdays? I can host a night for 4-5 people if you want.

I'd be up for hosting as well if people are interested. I'm in huntersville, have all stuff, plenty of room, and a couple kegs on tap.

Sounds awesome. $20 buy in or something works...we can up it if you guys want. Just enough to make it interesting but not enough to make anyone mad or quit.

I'm game. I can't host, but I can bring some beer and take your money.

Good thing we don't live in Raleigh and have the RPD watching over our backs.

If the Charlotte Police want to bust up our $20 night of poker, then so be it.

ok, i volunteer to host the first one. PM if interested. I will tentatively set the day for next Thursday night around 6:30. I'll probably grill too -

If 4+ (including myself) are interested, it's a go.

I live in the uptown area in case location influences ur decision...

@sumfoo - where did you end up buying your condo/townhome in uptown and might you be able to point me in the direction of good places to look? I'm all over realtor.com but charlottehomesandrealestate's search function hasn't been working lately.

note: I'm still staying with the guy I'm living with now for the forseeable future as I'm recovering from an EXPENSIVE junior & senior yr - but instead of renting on my own after that (2008ish) I'm planning on buying a townhome. Kudos for the suggestion as it got me seriously looking at it. That and my changed perspective on staying in Charlotte

http://www.beazer.com/findHome/houseplan.asp?communityhouseplanprofileid=35854

this is the same neighborhood im in, i have a house, but these are the adjacent townhomes, they are pretty nice and within 1 mile of center city and about a 15 min walk to the panther's stadium

If you're looking i would look @ the elizibeth/ eastover area

I was looking at a place in this building until it sold for 10k over list
and i wasn't prepared to do that yet.
http://www.mytownhome.com/cgi-bin/detail2.pl?listnum=641704

if thats not your style there are some more traditional places there
like
http://www.mytownhome.com/cgi-bin/detail2.pl?listnum=647630

but.... beergolftile is betting on the other side of town... so its up to you
i personally think center city (high rise stuff) is a BAAAAD idea right now since they're building 4 or 5 new high rises soo i think when all the flippers try to sell them in a couple years their prices will plummet but my, large place with more land and grass will hold value better.

i bought from mytownhome too - they have been really good so far about everything, will have to see what happens during the construction phase.

i dont think anywhere in uptown area is a bet - except maybe those highrises. I just think that some areas like Dilworth and Myers park are mature already and won't increase exponentially like they have over the past 10 years.

look around the midtown area. we are working on the metropolitan midtown job now. they are will have the target, home depot, best buy, staples, and a bunch of other retail all right there, should make property value sky rocket. Most of the property has already appreciated a lot over the last 3 years but I don't think it's done yet.

based on where I work and where my experiences in Charlotte have been thus far, I was hoping to look either towards uptown but sort of near the cricket arena (might potentially be moving there within the next 6 months, so we'll see how that works out) or down off park/johnston rd towards the pineville/ballentyne area of charlotte.

I've still got a bit but I def. know i'm not wanting to live as far out as mint hill, any part west of 77/85 or north of uptown - so south/southwest charlotte.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out mytownhome soon and see what my options may be (obviously things will change over time, just getting a general feel of what I might expect before I go gung ho for this )

Quote :
"Factors contributing to the ranking were air quality, the percentage of people who walk to work, access to parks, number of athletic shoes sold, and (believe it or not) weather.

Number of beaches versus frozen lakes apparently was not a factor. Crime rate, unfortunately for Miami, was.

cold ass madison wisconsin was ranked 1st if that makes any sense

I'm not saying that uptown and innerring burbs aren't, but compared to miami, ny, dc, boston, sf, philly, etc...there is not much density there or the density doesn't extend too far. This is due to the time of pop boom for charlotte (during the time of trains(trolleys) and cars). Charlotte was not that big to begin with --small urban core--less real walkable area. Add mid 50's/60's bulldozing and you get a fuxored city core. Granted, great strides are being taken and this is being reversed--but there is still a great deal of work to be done to make it truly "walkable." For ex. what about shopping at the city core? Granted, you will soon be able to take the trolley to buy furniture etc in southend and target opening in midtown.

btw regarding Cans for Friday night

Quote :
"I spoke to the mgmt at CANS. They would love to have us and will make sure the game is on. The conflict is that the DJ starts at 8:00pm on Friday nights and they will not have our sound on for the game. Kinda misses the experience. I told them not to worry about setting something special for us and that we could catch them at our next game as we advance through the tournament. Susan and I bought tix and are heading to Raleigh on Friday. "

You will be hard pressed to find a bar that will put sound on an NIT game, even if it is State.
