just saw an interesting interview on the news about the public hospital in New Orleans that still has 200+ patients left waiting for evacuation relief while they watched the TOTAL evacuation of the neighboring private Univ of Tulane hospital including the nurses and doctors.

it is a shame that the true colors of how this country are run is started to shine thru.

Funny how relief came so quickly for the financial district in New York on 9/11 but it has been 6 days now and relief in the poor parts of New Orleans has been half ass.

But then again why in the hell would Bush rush to care about this, it's not like he has to worry about being re-elected.

I am sure America has enough helicopters to airlift entire Raleigh in 6 hours.

Has anybody stopped to consider the logistics of the situation? Do you people really think that there weren't any poor people who were being treated at the Tulane hospital? Could the Tulane hospital have been easier for the rescuers to get to?

Who evacuated Tulane? Was it the government, or OMG, did Tulane actually help themselves and arrange their own transportation?

What was the medical status of those at Tulane compared to those in the public hospital? University hosiptals typically have a lot of critical patients that public hospitals can't/won't take care of.

Funny how the local and state governments in New York had their shit together and actually mounted an immediate response. Funny how the fire and police force in New York didn't fucking quit their jobs and run away like pansies. Funny how they still managed to do all this when the disaster happened with no warning.

Have you looked at Red Cross, Walmart, Lowes, NCSU, etc and seen the millions and millions of dollars that have been donated? Did you look at the front page of TWW?

The bombings at the WTC was in a confined area no where nearly widespread as destruction in NO

NO has been devastated tens times more than NYC. To even compare the two is laughable. I don't think Bush is/should be personally responsible for micromanaging rescue operations, but I am too amazed at the authorities' inabilities to at least maintain control of the city.

This shows me everything that is wrong with America, people do not want to work hard and try to dodge responsibility, about day 2 everyone was looking around wondering when someone else besides themselves was going to go in there and do the blue collar work

Hmm let's compare shall we.....

Two buildings (yes rather HUGE buildings) but nonetheless two buildings in New York are attacked by terrorists and said buildings fall to the ground.

VERSUS

An area larger than the size of Great Britain is totally wiped out with no clean water, no electricity, no transportation etc as a result of a massive hurricane/flooding

Which of the two would take longer to reach, to mobilize help for, and gather survivors?
duh, I dunno maybe the area affected by the hurricane?!?!?!

we sent tsunami relief in THE DAY AFTER IT HAPPENED

Well, in the case of the Tsunami, we had an aircraft carrier fleet within flying distance within a day. We didn't have any within range of New Orleans, and all the airports in the area were rendered useless.

That said, if you actually ask the Tsunami victims, while we were helping the next day, the vast majority of the heavily populated areas didn't see an american aircraft for weeks.

^ and a lot of the economic assistance provided to the Tsunami victims actually fucked them over by causing housing costs to sky rocket, etc... so we really didn't do a wonderful job there neither.

Needless to say, The local government of NO had no plan.
I think that anyone with just the slightest ability to think, having seen a cat 5 hurricane the larger than the Gulf of Mexico, would have enough common sense to get the fuck out.

But no, some stayed for their pets, some for the looting, some because they didn't want to leave - they made the choice, they have to deal with the consequences. And I would say it should be quite difficult to assist some areas since folks were fucking shooting at the damn rescue copters.

NO should not be rebuilt.
Only an idiot would rebuild a destroyed city under water.

It is true that in the terms of pure scale, the NO disaster has caused more property damage, and probably significant more deaths (I've heard a range from 1500 all the way up to 10,000). We wont know for a while. But in terms of economic impact, even with the temporary gas crunch and most of a city being leveled, 9/11 affected many more people and cost much more.

It's your fault if you get stuck in a flood.

How convenient this makes it for us to not have to bother helping them. I wonder what jesus would do.

If you paid attention to the thread, which I can see you haven't, we're talking about rescue operations and their management. And yes, I know whatever bad that happened during Dubbya's tenure is all due to 9/11.

What I will probably do is actually continue to donate money to the cause, and run relief air missions this week (expected) for the people of NO, where your sorry ass is probably jacking off to russian porn and bitching on TWW about how we need to do more.

One blown-up part of a financial district vs. entire fucking city that's flooded

Yea, it will take a little while longer.

Disater relief in New York could at least drive to the disaster area. In NO the fucking bridges are gone, and the only road not gone is under water!
