How expensive (in terms of fuel) is it to startup a car? Is this more than the expense of idling at a stoplight for 15 seconds?

it is more fuel efficient to shut off the car if idle will be kept for more than 30 sec.

it is hard on an engine, with no oil presuure everytime you start it, not to mention wear on the starter and flywheel. If you are idling less than 5 min or so, its not worth a few cents of gas to take 50,000 miles off the life of your enginge in the long run cutting it off at every red light.
