Go eat a dick. The country has been proven to be completely unprepared for a major disaster. Which was predictable btw. Not enough ahead of time to remove the danger, but enough time was given to alleviate it. That hasn't been done. Now we watch these idiots many days later making "figures of speech" about help being on the way. And the local idiots from the Republican Party as usual applaud mindlessly. I don't even have proper words to describe the level of intellectual development that you're demonstrating. 9/6/2005 12:06:09 AM |

We should blame everybody we can for this. It's everybody's fault.
At the same time it's nobody's fault.
So you're all not not in un-trouble for this. 9/6/2005 12:11:09 AM |

im not appluading
im just not saying w is full of shit because someone said millions of tons for all the areas affected for an unspecified amount of time
if you just want to criticize them for being unprepared there are plenty of threads on that already 9/6/2005 12:14:55 AM |

Actually, this country has proven to be fairly well prepared for a major disaster. However, New Orleans and more generaly the state of Louisiana has proven to be largely unprepared. Natural disasters occur all the time, all over the country, and no where else in the entire country have things ever been this bad. The reason is simply that every other state in the union seems to at least have a competent enough government to prepare for and allieviate the effects of a disaster. Louisiana on the other hand, appears to have thought the feds would do all of their work.9/6/2005 1:31:33 AM |

haha people arguing over semantics in The Soap Box...what has TWW come to???
He may be have been considering the actual weight of the food to be delivered, including packaging used to protect it during shipment.
Also, millions of tons of food isn't a lot when you are talking about millions of people that need food. Some of these people will need to be fed for months or even years, so I wouldn't put it past that much food being delivered. Plus some of these people...have you seen them? I would say some of them can eat a lot of food...
Even if they don't eat that much food...who cares? As long as they are getting enough food, who cares if it is millions of tons or pounds or grams or ounces? 9/6/2005 10:34:43 AM |

Millions of gallons of water will be consumed/used in a few days. Millions of tons of food will last a really long time.

some people would be killed in an explosion and a few blocks would have to be closed off the only way you could consider it a catastrophe would be if you included long term cancer and that wouldn't be an urgent emergency that is hard to deal with
