mini is still availible. you have to click on it on the left side of the screen. the bookstore, bestbuy, the apple store, and many other retailers will still have minis in stock for a limited time.
in terms of raw filespace, the mini is still a better deal. in terms of probable reliability though... my money would be on the nano. no moving parts and flash memory >>>>>>> harddrive. it's really your call though.
if you're buying an ipod at retail, you're probably doing it because of their marketing and trendyness. so if that's the case... go new, go sleek, go nano.
otherwise... take a look at the iriver.
http://www.iriveramerica.com/
thing (6gb h10) kicks the crap out of my mini, which before gargs jumps on me and calls me an applefag, was free.

i've already got a non-ipod mp3 player (harddrive). i don't like it. it's a pain in the ass to use w/ itunes too. i'm gonna get a nano w/ the student discount.
speaking of which, anybody want to buy a 6 month old creative nomad muvo2 4.0gb player? i've already listed it on ebay.

some itunes (sarah mclachlan releases a lot of special/extra songs only on itunes) and some from an actual store.
so, yes. what's the problem? 9/7/2005 11:28:35 PM |

meh, if you use the itunes store and you like itunes as a music manager, then stick with the choice of an ipod. 9/8/2005 1:02:30 AM |

I am surprised Apple used an ARM processor for its IPOD, whatever happened to the closed hardware thing? 9/8/2005 1:03:31 AM |

Pretty sure most if not all g-series processors were done out-of-house. It's been a long time since "close hardware" meant everything done in house. It still means that apple controls and knows what's actually on their systems though. 9/8/2005 1:07:23 AM |

I was mostly making of StarCaptain for apparently thinking that Apple makes processors, but you're right. Motorola did most of the old processors, as well as the G4's (now made by Motorola spinoff Freescale). IBM made most of the G3's and all of the G5's.

Wow seriously ! You got a problem? Apple always contracted out the processors to the hardware majors like IBM, Motorola etc, but the processor was not an open architecture. ARM on the other hand is an open architecture.9/8/2005 10:57:08 AM |

StarCaptain is right
ARM is very open...in fact all their IP is out in the open.
I think this move might have a deeper impact...expect to see an iPod PDA. 9/8/2005 11:16:32 AM |

Education prices on the nano are 179 and 229.
http://www.apple.com/store --> look for the link that says "more stores -- education" over on the right side of the page
