i don't want to pay the pricks at a dealership a boatload to get copies of my car keys (the ones that actually START the car, not the ones that just open the doors...is there any alternative to going to the dealership (other than shutting up and dealing with it, i mean)? 9/9/2005 8:46:49 PM |

what car? most chysler/jeep/dodge that have the SKIM system let you program the new keys (you can buy off of ebay, cheap) yourself if you have two already programmed keys. 32bit encryption that can't be bypassed or disconnected in any way.

i'll speak for GM cars...I think most semi-normal cars are the same (i.e. not Mercedes)
the "microchip" is a fucking resistor and that's it... You can buy the blank key with the right resistance (they have a ton of different values, so check it with a multi meter obviously) off eBay and have lowe's hardware or somebody copy your original on to that blank
or you can do what i did since mine would randomly not work... spend < $1 on a resistor and wire that up to work instead of the pellet thing 9/9/2005 8:51:14 PM |

just spend the $60 and get one from the dealer
