so my computer won't even turn on. what could it be?

i doubt it's the power supply, b/c i just bought a new 580 W power supply couple months ago. i guess it could be faulty tho.

same for my video card.

is it likely its my motherboard?

Does it do *anything* when you try to turn on the power?

(Any HDD sound, any fan sound?)

Probably motherboard or processor.

it doesn't do anything at all.

i also forgot to mention, the day b/f it stopped turning on, it was slowing down....a lot. just the entire operating system (windows xp) was so slow it was painful. then i turned off and it wouldn't turn back on.

Make sure everything is plugged in properly. If it is, disconnect the power supply, jump the power on wires and makes sure the power supply will turn on when not attached to the motherboard. If the power supply does indeed work. If it does, I'd start checking for bad ram, then the CPU, and finally the motherboard it self. I'd find a friend with a similar machine so that you have parts avaliable to switch out during troubleshooting.

so i took out my memory sticks and turned the power supply on and the fan came on. so it must be the memory.

i had 3 sticks, two 256 and one 512, so ive taken em all out except for one (ive alternated w/ each stick) and now it is acting like it did b/f it died. really slow when booting, altho now it doesnt even look like it makes it to the desktop b/f it freezes.

so is it likely that all three sticks went bad? or is it the memory modules? or anything else? (eventually ill steal some friends memory sticks and try em but i wont be able to for awhile)
