anybody know what's the deal here? i know cluster size will lead to wasted space, but i usually see that around 20% or less. this is around 50%. i defragged and it didn't change much. i'm stumped

You've got indexing turned on, which takes a chunk. How about System Restore? 9/10/2005 5:17:21 PM |

That is just Documents and Settings.
Windows itself is quite large, not to mention "Program Files" which can be a few GB easily. 9/10/2005 5:30:27 PM |

The "Size on disk" is the space the files are using once adjusted for the cluster size.9/10/2005 6:03:09 PM |

not only should you show hidden files/folders, you need to uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files" then you will see the rest of it. Probably the biggest being pagefile.sys from your virtual memory allocation.

we have a winner, it was the protected operating system files. if only i had had to scroll to get to the hidden files option, i would have seen the OS files option too and spared myself this confusion.
thank you sir 9/10/2005 8:52:56 PM |
