I need someone to lift with (spot, etc), preferably 3~5 days a week at carmichael gym.

I'm weak, so someone who's doing reps of 300+lbs wouldn't be ideal because I'd have a harder time spotting.

send me a message.

I remember reading about when he broke the 1000lb mark this year. Everyone was bitching about the custom shirt he took 20 minutes to pry himself into that added almost 300lbs to his raw lift. I wouldn't be surprised to see them ban shirts and knee wraps in the next 5 years or so because of how assistive the newer materials are.

It's also hard to complain about lifting shirts and squat suits when all of the lifters wear an extra 80lbs of chemically induced muscle.

yeah, they are made of a really tough spandex-like material that acts as a spring under tension when you lower the weight to your chest. They make similar suits and knee wraps for the squat as well. They are one of the reason the deadlift is my favorite lift, because the only thing that can help you with that lift is a bionic grip and willpower.

A lot of lifters sniff ammonia before a lift to psych themselves up and get their adrenaline rushing. I'm still not convinced that this technique actually works, but it is kind of entertaining to watch.

Here's a good example of what a bench shirt and a shitty lift looks like. There are 3 judges, and you need 2 approvals for a successful lift. The only judge that would have given him the green light on that is the head judge, because the head judge can't tell that his butt is 6" off the bench.

^ yeap, a consistent max. bench shouldn't have a bunch of unnecessary factors mixed in that change around the playing field

- no special spandex shirts
- your back must be flat on the bench so that you can't get any assistance from your legs

I don't agree with a flat back to eliminate the legs, because powerlifting is about core total body strength. You get a lot of strength in the bench by thrusting with your legs forward to get the bar moving towards your head. It allows you to rotate the bar up instead of having to press it straight up. There's an art form to keeping your ass and head on the bench while applying tension from lower body strength.

Powerlifting is about moving as much weight as possible, not about targeting specific muscle groups. I don't see anything wrong with Sumo style squats or practicing box squats to utilize the hip flexors and extensors over the quads in the squat. The reason I see this is because powerlifting is just as much of a competition against yourself as it is against other lifters. Even if you get a mechanical advantage using these lifting techniques against other lifters, in the end you are still competing against your own personal records and lifting styles.

Gene Rychlak is the only person to bench to bench over a 1,000lbs with the help of a bench shirt. Mendelson does his lifts the majority of his lifts raw and his record was set while benching raw. BTW, they do make deadlift suits that work just like Bench shirts which will make you bleed if fitted correctly.

^^^And what the fuck are you talking about thats what a shitty lift looks like? He is using his legs for stablization and his ass is well within contact. It might not be awesome for getting body building like but god damn that is an impressive feat to bench that much weight.

I did arms today

and i have a question

normally i split the movements up, like i'll do muscle group A, then a muscle group B
then get some water
and do another exercise for muscle group A, then B, water, and so on and so forth

but today i just hit my biceps first, did 4 exercises, with breaks for water between each exercise
and then switched to triceps and did 4 or 5 exercises, again with water breaks

i really like the way that felt, should i routinely do that, or stick to what i've been doing?

i've got chest/shoulders coming up in my next session, so i'm thinking about trying that, but i think it will be a bitch by about the third movement for both groups....

^^if you blow two lights, then you lifted your ass off the bench. that's all there is to it.

^I personally don't like to superset opposing muscle groups during workouts because I feel like it takes blood away from one muscle group and sends it to the other. This can cut down on the amount of ATP that is replenished in the first muscle group worked, and thus make your following sets not as intense. This is just what I've experienced, and everyone responds differently to training. Either way, it never hurts to switch up your training routine every now and then.
