Would a P3 1Ghz git r done?
What's the minimum proc speed you could run something like freevo on? I've found lots of info on other parts, but not on computing power?
Would a dual proc be any better?

Are you going to be trying to run XP Media center edition? Are you going to try to use an HD tuner in it? If you're even thinking about touching HD then a P3 1ghz is NOT going to get the job done. If you're thinking normal tv... it depends on how good your video card and/or tuner cards are. If they do most of the work and aren't so underpowered that anything video related bogs down the system... then maybe.

Anyways, look at what some of the cheaper "mediapc's" have in them. Also remember that the mobo for that processor isn't going to support the newest and best video cards, so you're going to be limited on that end.

Tivo through direct tv or dvr through time warner is usually going to be cheaper and work better than a built-yourself thing. I got my direct tv dual tuner tivo set for 50 bucks and the tivo service is worth the 5 bucks a month.

okay with satelite
DirecTv does TiVo
DishNetwork does some other DVR

With regular TiVo (the one you buy in the store) you can easily grab shows off of the TiVo with just some software. Is this possible with the DirecTv Tivo or the Dish DVR?

^^^^ I don't know, you could possibly pull out the harddrive and connect it to your pc. I think they're just regular ide drives aren't they? you'd probably just need software that'd recognize them.

so you can't run this http://www.tivoblog.com/ to a DirecTV TiVo or Dish DVR but you can with a store bought TiVo?
