I wanted to go with Bob's Mufflers to do everything at once on my exhaust system, but he doesn't do headers. I spoke to Phantasm Motorsports and they said they can do everything at a cheaper hourly rate even that Bob's. Have any of you had good/bad experiences with them, particularly involving their exhaust installs?

I've heard stories, not sure whether they are true, of phantasm putting body kits on cars and then sending people at night to steal them back off the cars. Sounds pretty ridiculous, but its something I heard a few years back. I guess they were under police investigation at some point too. As to their exhaust work, I have no idea.

they had some guys that used to work there that were known for stealing parts off of cars after installation. They also had a couple of guys dealing extacy out of the store that got them in a bunch of shit.

They may have changed since a few years ago, but I personally wouldn't risk taking anything to them.

I've heard all those exact statements, but only in the form of rumors. Is that ecstasy shyte really true? It just sounds too "The Fast and the Furious," to actually be true.

A guy that works there now was telling me about it. He was saying that the owners of store are really particular about the personal lives of the guys that work there now because they got into so much shit over that one.

The NC SBI went crazy over extacy the year that happened because some kid at UNC-CH got shot in the head over a deal gone bad.

I had some work done there a few years back and it was piss poor in my opinion. This was before I was savy on car part installs, now I do my own work cause I dont trust anyone to take care of my baby. I recently came across some of the work they did on my car installing a pyrometer and a boost gauge and I wanted to vomit. What I have learned is that you get what you pay for, just take a look at their shop for god's sake. I know there is some really good foreign car place on chapel hill road before the NC auto action place, dont know if they do that sort or repair- but I am sure they could atleast point you to a place that could do it well. I would definatly stay away from phantasm IMO.

hahaha

what amazes me about the place is all these horrible rumors about how bad they suck, etc., then why in the hell are they still in business while all the other "performance" shops close? not only are they still in business, but they are in the process of purchasing a 50,000 sq. ft. shop about a mile north on capital.

I don't think it is too difficult to install headers. Nothing to screw up really. I wouldn't see a problem going there for that. If there were any moving parts, I may say otherwise.

^^^ I hate to argue with you man, but that's wrong. They're definitely a bunch of liars (to some degree), they did have their own guys steal things, and they did incredibly terrible work (in both my personal experience and otherwise). I'm not saying they're entirely terrible, but the work we had there was horrific, the prices were bad, and they lost a lot of credibility in my mind.

aww hell with it.. I will just go to one of Bob's suggestions for the headers and then have him install the high flow cats and zoomers. I don't want to trust the Magnum to circumstance. only heard good things about Bob's so far

ok. and you've known the owners for how long? oh, lemme guess, you've just "had experiences" with them. you can call them liars if you want since i don't know about your particular experience. but it is just uncalled for for you to accuse them of stealing unless you personally saw it happen of had a friend who saw it happen and they get convicted for it. that's a strong accusation to make just from a rumor.

every shop screws up sometime along the way and does bad work, some more than others. but, again, if the shop does such horrible work, then why in the hell are they still in business? and its not like they are barely hanging on either.

maybe it's just the people that frequent the shop don't know their ass from their elbow under the hood and couldn't tell you what was good or bad work? just a thought

the name phantasm just sounds gay. that and all these ricers with phantasm stickers plastered on their shitboxes are the reasons I wouldn't go there.

those stickers are also the reason that Phantasm doesn't care whether you go or not...like underPSI said, they aren't hurting for business

I have no personal comments about Phantasm, but:

underPSI:

Quote :
"what amazes me about the place is all these horrible rumors about how bad they suck, etc., then why in the hell are they still in business while all the other "performance" shops close? "

This is COMPLETELY FLAWED LOGIC. Walmart is the biggest employer on earth and aren't hurting for business either. However pretty much every service they offer and most everything they sell is absolute trash.

Doing well financially and doing a good JOB are two completely different and not necissarily related things.

It's really funny how they have this condescending attitude towards the ricers that pay all their bills. It's like a love-hate relationship. I see a lot of highschool kids in there buying ricer shit. There was a chubby 16 year old looking kid who kept bugging Nam about JDM parts for his 1991 240sx.

They do have access to lots of good parts though, like my friend had to buy Tein adjustment tools from Phantasm because they are an authorized dealer and he couldn't find them anywhere else. Their prices are not that great though.

show me where in any of my posts i said phantasm does good work. i was merely trying to clear up some bullshit rumors about the place.

now, i'm not saying they don't do or can't do good work, but i've seen things leave there that i didn't agree with also.
