Quote : | "Blair ‘shocked’ over BBC Katrina coverage By Joshua Chaffin and Aline van Duyn in New York Published: September 17 2005 00:38 | Last updated: September 17 2005 00:38
Tony Blair was shocked by the BBC's coverage of Hurricane Katrina's devastation of New Orleans, describing it as “full of hatred of America”, Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, revealed on Friday night.
Mr Murdoch, a long-time critic of the BBC who controls rival Sky News, said the prime minister had recounted his feelings in a private conversation earlier this week in New York. " |

Unamerican is defined as "Considered contrary to the institutions or principles of the United States."
Sounds pretty similiar to me.. I don't see what the problem is. 9/16/2005 10:59:14 PM |

^ In the context of a country the two words have essentially the same meaning, although I'll grant in many situations they do not. In this context, I'll also grant that 'anti' has a stronger meaning. However, they are still essentially interchangable.
On another note, Sky News has always sounded like something out of Starship Troopers.

Bill Clinton apparently criticized the BBC's coverage today as well.

I dunno about European media, but I recall that Fox News guys freakin' loved it. They smugly pontificated about the failings of the socialist system and how the French deserved serious punishment.9/18/2005 2:45:11 PM |

for what its worth, "un" means "not," while "anti" means "against."
thus, unAmerican != anti-American in the general case. 9/19/2005 6:10:28 PM |

I read BBC coverage during the whole thing.
I'll agree their editorials were a bit biased. But, then again, they're supposed to be.
Most of their news was no different than FOXNEWS or MSNBC in my eyes.
They had logs from reporters on the ground at the Superdome, Mississippi, the Convention Center, and such that was giving a timetable and how things were progressing real time that was very unflattering, but if that's the truth, so be it.
Heck, Shepard Smith on FOXNEWS was getting incredibly pissed off at the federal government when I was watching one time. If there's anyone that would be most on the Bush administration's side, he'd be a candidate. 9/21/2005 6:28:43 PM |
