The plate covers, yeah they're illegal, but everyone seems to have them. Any recommendations on a decent brand to buy? I dont run red lights habitually, but sometimes I'd like to have the option.

^he doesn't have sand in his vagina, he has common sense.

there is no point in running a red light. not only do you risk your life, but you risk someone else's. think about how many useless adults who ride around with their kids in the back seat with no child seat whatsoever. fucking kids jumping around, carrying on. would it be worth it to take a child's life just to run that red light only to get stopped at another 1/4 mile down the road?

try this sometime. try driving exactly the speedlimit and obeying all traffic laws. it won't be long before you see some jackass passing everybody, riding someone's ass, and running the redlight. watch how far the jackass gets. he might beat you by a stoplight, but i guarantee you'll catch up to him within a mile or two.

You know, there are not that many intersections that have the redlight cameras. And the ticket doesnt count as a moving violation. I would think the chances of you getting a ticket for a license plate protector much higher than you running a light at one of the few intersections, which are clearly marked, that has cameras.

I cant imagine why you need the option to run a redlight at one of the few intersections with these things.

um.... when riding out late at night on my bike and there is a redlight that will never turn bc my bike doesnt weigh enough or whatever to hit the light sensor.. i run the light after making sure no one is coming. krs3g isnt talkin about running redlights all the time, just for times like this im guessing. besides some of those damn lights have yellows that are only 1 sec long or so so they try to catch u .. ie cary trying to increase cary revenue.

there are no lights that trick you into running a red...the number of collisions/deaths caused by that would definitely outweigh any amount of $40 fines

well maybe they dont try to trick you, but shit the one at the mall at cary town had the shortest yellow in town for a while and that was a camera light. my dad who's been driving 35years, drives like a saint, got caught by that shit.

In the early days of red light cameras the companies operating them did indeed reduce the amount of "yellow" time to increase revenues.

do you drive? if you do, you'd have to be blind to not notice how short the yellows are in the immediate vicinity of "Camera Enforced Blabbity Blah" signs

if you can bring your car to a stop before the line by locking the brakes, popping the hood, and dragging your foot out the door, they pretty much expect you to do so at the camera enforced lights

it was heavily reported in the news when they were coming out. car and driver (or one of the ones i had a subscription to then) even had somthing about it

i was under the impression that they caught too much flack about it and changed things back though

either way theres no point in running a red light. and if you do have a bike that cant trip the cycle just put your hand over the plate

funny thing is, ALL the lights with safelight installed in NC at least are on TIMERS, not tripped by the mag strips.

So there is still NO FUCKING ETHICAL USE for the plate covers. Oh and if a SHP or RPD officer sees those on your ride, be prepped for a MUCH larger fine than the 40 bones for running a red.

I do believe those things are magnetic... you probably just need to move around till your rims or engine of somthing are on the strip... they work pretty much like a CFCI in you kitchen or bathroom.

The shields are useless against motion cameras. They will only work on still shot cameras.

Think about it and you'll understand why.

It is studies like this that make me happy:

Quote :
"The Virginia Transportation Research Council studied all of the state red light camera programs and found an overall increase in injury accidents."

Quote :
"Despite a distinct sympathy in favor of camera enforcement, the researchers found a "definite" increase in rear-end accidents and only a "possible" decrease in angle accidents. "

I got flashed by that one at two in the morning. There was exactly ONE car in front of me at the light, and the light turned yellow and then red while I was still driving through the intersection. I never got an actual ticket from it, which is good because I would have cut somebody.

From some article I read about on the way those sprays work, they depend on the flash of the camera to screw them up. AFAIK, the ones around here don't work in the same manner to be screwed up by those retroreflective sprays. But, I don't know.

The best thing is to make a fake license plate, that you can make fold down over your real license plate, that is activate by a switch. The, when you want to do something illegal, flip the switch, do it, then un-flip the switch.

best product ever for motorcycles, its a super high power ceramic magnet that wont fuck up your electronics, but will trip almost any light out there, i also make it a habit to cross the mag strips at an angle to generate a stronger field. since i put those on both my bikes, i have never gotten stuck at a light.

I didn't realize that.

I just know that I have seen a lot of people get "the flash" when they were in the intersection just as it turned red. I have never knowingly ran a redlight and stop if I can on yellow, but just like with the link I posted, I am much less likely to "risk" going through the intersection on yellow ... and yes, that causes accedents.

That I know of:

Cary:
At least 2 on Walnut St. (Crossroads)
A few on Maynard (at least 3)

I am still thinking of where some other ones are. (The ones in Cary all have the flash/strobe boxes)
