I'm gonna have to say Brent Spiner
he was asked to play a character with no emotions and instead of coming out bland like Keanu Reeves in the matrix or some thing he made Data rich and interesting as a character
plus he was versatile playing his brother with emotions, an old man, and a bunch of other weird stuff 9/17/2005 1:16:24 AM |

yea patrick stewart is the man but I just think of Data as a much more challenging character to pull off
btw anyone else think Riker tends to overact sometimes...like yell when he doesn't really need to? 9/17/2005 1:23:28 AM |

i respect brent, but that's not asking alot. pulling off the grace and stamina of that operation is way beyond diplomats of this age.

The answer has to be a character from deep space 9, there is no doubt about this.
quark, jadzia, garak, weyoun, chief obrien, worf (ds9 worf > TNG worf), etc. 9/17/2005 1:39:25 AM |

I'm going to have to agree with Brent Spiner. Because of Star Trek, he was likely type-casted out of a lot of roles, but if you look at the range of characters he had to act...
Think of all the holodeck characters he had to act, and his crazy brother, as well as his own creator, and he had to also sing and dance and stuff too. He's probably one of the most versatile actors EVER. 9/17/2005 2:29:51 AM |

plus that episode where the primative culture program took over the enterprise and data where he had to play like 3 different characters of a myth9/17/2005 3:52:38 AM |

As HockeyRoman:
I have to agree that Brent Spiner is the best actor given the dynamics he had to play during the course of the show. You guys already mentioned "Masks" and "Fistful of Datas" but the one that comes to my mind is "Brothers" where he has to play Data, Lore and Dr. Soong.
Next would of course be Patrick Stewart followed by John de Lancie. 9/17/2005 12:21:34 PM |

I think they all did pretty well despite the shitty dialogue they were constantly given.
Spiner is awful in the first few TNG episodes. He definitely improved. 9/17/2005 3:35:07 PM |

"Theme from Star Trek" (The Original Series) Lyrics by Gene Roddenberry Beyond The rim of the star-light My love Is wand'ring in star-flight I know He'll find in star-clustered reaches Love Strange love a star woman teaches. I know His journey ends never His star trek Will go on forever. But tell him While he wanders his starry sea Remember, remember me.
The Tenacious D version of this makes me laugh every time.
