I have a 97 jeep wrangler with a 2.5L 4 cylinder and it wont pass inspection because the check engine light is on. So i had a diagnostics test run earlyer today and the code came up pspps (power steering pump pressure sensor). Well i have since called napa, auto zone, and advanced auto. No one ever keeps this part. What the hell am i supposed to do. I have untill the end of month to get it inspected. And i dont know where to get this part. Any info would be appreciated. 9/23/2005 10:24:07 PM |

YOu have until the end of the month while the inspection is due, or you have until the end of the month before you hit that 6 month period afterwards where they fine you $250? 9/23/2005 10:32:46 PM |

Why in God's name does a power steering pump pressure sensor flag an OBDII error code? This is a new one on me, though I don't know as much about OBDII as I would like.
Go to the dealer. They'll have what everybody else doesn't. 9/23/2005 10:34:09 PM |

i'd suggest going to the dealership and ordering the part if you want to get ass raped on the price or just have napa or advance auto order it...you just said they didnt keep it in stock, that doesn't mean they can't get it
OH SHIT, THAT WAS A HARD ONE
and, i've had one vehicle inspected in 6 years... it'll be aight 9/23/2005 10:34:29 PM |

just go to morgans and get the part if there isnt actually anything wrong with your PS system 9/23/2005 11:40:44 PM |
scrager All American 9481 Posts user info edit post |
are you even sure it's a bad part? the error code says it come from the PS pressure sensor, but is the problem a bad sensor or a problem in the system causing the sensor to flag an error. replacing a sensor when there is something else wrong is only going to empty your pocket. 9/24/2005 12:49:09 AM |

guess why check engine light comes on when you turn the ignition on before you start the car? to make sure the bulb still works. and yes most inspectors look for it unless they are complete n00bs.9/24/2005 2:55:04 PM |

doesn't matter if they look at it or not, the OBD2 can tell the bulb was taken out.
And after 6 months or whatever you will get a fine unless you write them. There is no way around it, the system automatically mails you a letter. 9/24/2005 2:58:40 PM |

poe is the first one to get it. it's not a sensor it's a switch, and unless it's just unplugged or the wiring is bad, the switch needs to be replaced.
like everyone else said, try some more parts stores like carquest or the dealer. 10/4/2005 2:19:04 PM |

i'm pretty sure i had to replace that part. got it at jeep and it was around 30 bux as said before. get the part. switch the switches, ur done! it's not hard and the switch is there to up the idle when turning at idle, or else the little 2.5 will stall. pretty sure that's how it goes. 10/4/2005 7:06:32 PM |

i did that on mine, hoping it wouldn't throw the code again, but with that switch, when they go, they go. he just needs to get a new one and he'll be fine. keb, you fail....inspection wise that is, if your mil (malfuntion indicator light) is on, you won't pass on a 97 or newer vehicle. 10/4/2005 8:51:46 PM |

even the slickest inspector cant pass an OBDII car that fails readiness check.

possibly, but then he will have to be lucky enough to have the code not get re-set before he completes the proper # of drive cycles to pass the readiness check... why do i feel like a broken record here? its pretty cut and dry folks.10/4/2005 9:12:55 PM |

you would have to be able to do some hardcore computer design and programming to be able to beat the odbII inspection system. basically a shop would have to build a car "emulator" to hook up to the inspection computer with programmable vins and streaming data and whatnot 10/5/2005 8:20:18 AM |

I've had my Jeep registered for like a year and a half and still haven't got it inspected. I just got a notice from the DMV that I have until the end of December or I'm out 250 bucks. No where near legal so I am trying to figure out something. oh well, not sure why I chimed in other then the fact that I am bored out of my mind and had nothing better to do. 10/6/2005 3:22:51 PM |

how does the late fee thing work if the vehicle becomes unregistered, my bronco's inspection is overdue, but im getting ready to turn in the tag, my insurance is about to run out and im not going to pay it since i wont be moving the vehicle most likely until next summer will they still try to stick me with some sort of ridiculous fee? 10/24/2005 5:55:49 PM |

Fails to have the vehicle inspected within 4 months after it is required to be inspected; b. Instructs or allows a person to tamper with an emission control devise of the vehicle so as to make the devise inoperative or fail to work properly; c. Incorrectly states the county of registration of the vehicle to avoid having an emissions inspection of the vehicle [G.S. 20- 183.8A]. [Effective Oct. 1, 1996, the registration of the vehicle may not be renewed until the penalty imposed has been paid.]" |
this is all i can find in the vehicle inspection laws that is related to civil penalties, and it looks like me, and probably southern4x4, shouldnt have to worry about it, because of the emmision controlled vehicle part, i know im ny county, my 82 just needs a safety inspection if anyone doesnt agree, please provide a link, cause this is all i can find
