Very, very, very few people are true IDist. Most Christians, when they find out about the YEC aspect, are turned off. ID without YEC does not conflict with evolution in any meaningful way.

darwin wasn't seeking to discredit or disprove christianity when he made his discoveries. he did it for the same reason all scientific research is conducted: genuine curiosity about the way things work on earth. and i think this is the approach that the vast majority of scientists and people who vouch for evolution are coming from. results of properly conducted scientific experiments are not biased. these people are just reporting factual evidence and logical conclusions that can be drawn from that evidence. they don't care what implications it may or may not have for religion.

yeah there are probably a very small proportion of scientists who are atheists and actively seek to disprove religion, but they're not true scientists.
