The Texas grand jury has charged that corporate donations given to Texans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee -- formed by DeLay -- were used to support state candidates in violation of state law. Texas law prohibits corporate money to be used to advocate the election or defeat of candidates; it is allowed only for administrative expenses. 9/28/2005 1:05:14 PM |

ok, i was about to make this thread, but you beat me to it.
my question is how much this renewal of campaign finance problems will help Senator McCain should he decide to run for President in '08. i'm thinking that it's too early to have much of an effect, and Joe Schmoe doesn't really give a shit anyway, unless it can be used to bring down a politician he otherwise dislikes. 9/28/2005 1:47:41 PM |

GAYS
So I'm reading/watching about it, and apparently the facts aren't in despute.
The question is whether or not what happened was illegal.
Corporations -> Texas Reps = illegal
Corporations -> third party political organization -> Texas Reps = illegal? 9/28/2005 3:31:52 PM |
roguewolf All American 9069 Posts user info edit post |
nah it can't be illegal, its the simple 3 step plan
1.Donate money 2. 3. Profit!
i dont think anything will knock off this headline in a week. i think the media will not do it job in following up on it and it will be washed away in talk of Iraq and Iran in 2 weeks tops. 9/28/2005 3:37:32 PM |

Is the prosecutor the same guy who gave this speech to the Texas Values in Action Coalition?
http://www.drivedemocracy.org/blog/index.php?p=274
What is the Texas Values in Action Coalition? http://www.texvac.org/default.asp
So, from my understanding, the Texas Values in Action Coalition is a PAC founded to get Democrats elected in North Texas. They recently held a fundraiser with the guest speaker being the prosecutor of Tom Delay. In his speech, he mentioned Tom Delay, someone he was trying to have convicted of crimes.
I'm not a legal expert, but is that legal? 9/28/2005 5:18:12 PM |
