you have no options. unless you have a fellow follow you on the surface with a gps device, but you'd have to figure out a reliable way for him to stand directly above you the whole time.

not going to work unless there's a gps receiever above you like said above... it could be possible (with some sort of hardware) to have an RF transmitter on yourself that communicates w/ said gps above ground (in LOS) and updates those coordinates with yours considering the displacement. not gonna happen though.

You can get GPSes with inertial sensors. They are $texas though.

Alternatively, you might could rig up a Powerbook's motion sensors for rough estimates...

a powerbook would make for the worlds most expensive, slow , gps unit. (would be really pretty looking though)

I couldn't find a lot of pricelists, but GPS systems with inertial units can be well over $1000. Considering how fairly simple they are, I would guess there are cheaper ones, but I have no knowledge of any.
