Anyone know of places actually doing preorders and NOT requiring you to buy a huge package? Someone told me bestbuy isn't even doing preorders. Only place I've found so far doing it other than the NCSU bookstore is ebgames and they're supposedly making you buy a 700 dollar package.

costco lets you preorder the premium X360 ($400), Project Gotham Racing 3 ($50), extra wireless controller ($50), and play and charge kit ($20) for $480. 10/1/2005 12:01:10 PM |

You're a moron if you buy a system preorderd. They will charge you the maximum amount possible for the thing. I remember when the same crap happened with the ps2. Wait a few months, and buy it then, you'll save a couple 100. 10/1/2005 12:09:58 PM |

^ exactly
plus, it's not like there's anything groundbreaking being released in conjunction with the 360
I'm waiting until they announce Halo 3 before I even think about buying a 360 10/1/2005 12:38:13 PM |

^^,^ that would be great advice, if pre-orders were meant for people who didn't mind waiting a few months.
I'm waiting for the PS3 myself anyways, but me and my sister were trying to get my dad one for christmass.

Don't forget how hard it was to even find a system on sale over the Christmas holidays when the PS2 first came out. I'd buy a few and then sell them for a couple hundred more to desperate parents on Ebay. 10/1/2005 1:03:58 PM |

When I preordered mine at EB Games they didn't make me do a bundle. Maybe that's changed, but you might want to call them and find out for sure.
Also I'd check out Circuit City. And if you're trying to get one without pre-ordering, I'd go to Wal-mart at midnight the day it's released and I can't imagine you wouldn't get one that way. 10/1/2005 4:00:56 PM |

When I preordered my XBOX 360 system, Babbage's automatically pre-ordered the Premium Pack (which is what I really want). I know that it's a $50 deposit, and by now, you might get one at the end of the year. It's unsure, but I would pre-order tomorrow if you want. The Premium Pack is $400, but you get a lot of useful things like the hard drive which is needed for backwards compatibility. The Core System is only $300, but you really don't get anything, but the system and a wired controller. 10/3/2005 1:02:55 AM |

Wait a few months, or better yet wait until the P3/Nintendo launch when they will be forced into lowering the price or giving a deal due to the competition.
I remember the launch of the first x-box. There was a "shortage" so the people selling the thing could do anything they wanted. I think the best "deal" you could get at launch was a required purchase of 3 games and an extra controller. Otherwise they would not sell the system. This was before they had two "deals" to offer.

Nintendo probably still won't have their system ready for quite some time.
Because of the PS3's processing power, it's rumored to be even more expensive than the 360. Good luck waiting for the 360 to lower the price when it's already the lower price of the two..
My biggest worry are the bugs that will obviously be in the system based on the initial launch. I don't want to have to deal with a system that's full of problems...although it'd probably be easier to mod the initial launches than the fixed up ones..

I remember a lot of people were able to preorder their game systems online from some places. They even got them early. Even though you'll have to pay shipping and handling you might want to go that route. If not, campout at Wal-Mart.

no it doesn't. I put a 50 dollar deposit on the platinum system and preordered oblivion. that'll come to what... 450? not every place makes you order some retarded "special" package deal, bookstore lets you do it a la carte 10/4/2005 1:21:41 PM |

^^ platinum x-box 360 system = x-box 360+ harddrive+wireless controller+headset+preloaded game demos/video crap. $399.99
"core" system = xbox 360 +wired controller. $299.99
since the harddrive alone is a 100 dollar addon for the core system and is required for backwards compatability... it makes alot of sense to get the platinum system especially if you don't already have an x-box.

By threatening to bring suit under the umstead act (remember, state owned buisnesses run under very different rules.) The bookstore's mission is kind of vague, but it's pretty much only supposed to provide NEEDED services to the students. The legal department is so afraid of incuring costs, we usually cave in at the mere threat of an umstead-act based law suit. For example, were Eckerd Drugs to complain abot us selling greeting cards, we'd probably stop.

Now it's not that they've nescessarily even threatened a suit, just that the fear of a possible suit is so paralyizing... really silly.

^^ wow that's crazy. i had never heard of the umstead act. i guess in theory it's the same reason the federal government is full of contractors -- the gvmt feels it should not be competing with private industry. so if a service can be reasonably provided by industry then the gvmt contracts with northup grumman or somebody else to provide that service.
