I have to say that living up north lets you realize the many things that you no longer can enjoy without paying a visit back to NC....

~SWEET Ice tea
~Barbeque
~Bojangle's
~El Rodeo!
~Baja Burrito
~Wearing shorts in December
~Cat's Cradle
~G.R.I.T.S as well as Grits

feeling like a townie--

aside from the massive amounts of new college kids that flood into the triangle every year, there's still that core set of familiar people in raleigh, durham, and chapel hill that you always see or run into. it's like the cheers effect; there's something to be said for having some degree of face/name recognition.

I don't want to wear shorts in the summer, let alone the winter.
Come live in Hawaii. It's like hell with trees.

I promise there is sweet iced tea in places other than NC.

It's on Maui. I'm on Oahu.
There's also no Victoria's Secret on this island. I don't know about the other ones. And sure, I can order most of the things I can't get here, but I pay out the ass for shipping and handling.

East Village, Bojangles, bbq, sweet tea, grits

Nice people

Family, real friends

Southern accents (I'm really sick of people making fun of me here)

bojangles
hardees (breakfast)
sweet tea
brueggers
my friends
good concerts (yes, raleigh/nc area has 10x more and better concerts than southern la)
the beach being close by
the mountains being close by
being within driving distance from at least some skiing
4 distinct seasons
the smell of tobaccoville/king (RJR plant) on my route from school to home
clean lake and river water (as in you can swim in it)
lack of humidity (if anyone wants to argue this, come live with me in louisiana)

i guess nothing from raleigh exactly, more like nc in general

Every time I tell someone I'm from NC they ask me where my accent is.

Yeah, that's another thing I miss. Hawaii is the most remote group of islands in the world, good luck getting any people out here that don't *suck.*

I freakin' miss Buffalo Wild Wings. And I only ever ate there when I was in Texas. Who the fuck ever actually misses anything from Texas?!?!?!

I've never heard of Razed in Black. And The Eagles are totally coming in a couple weeks, which would be awesome to see, but I can't afford tickets. Well, I could afford them, I just would rather save my money now that I'm finally getting some.

I'm not trying to hate, but Raleigh doesn't have 4 distinct seasons.

I've been up in NYC for 2 1/2 months, and this is what I miss so far:

-Having an almost unlimited number of people to call up and go out with
-Cookout
-East Village
-Glenwood South (not that I don't like bars up here!)
-cheap beer/drinks at bars (i.e. drinks under $5)
-Having access to an seemingly unlimited amount of apartment pools
-tailgating before and attending NCSU football games
-(most likely will miss) going to NCSU basketball games
-being close to to a beach that you can go swimming in comfortably in May
-being less than 5 hrs away from Hilton Head Island

while they are cheaper than NY no doubt, drinks in raleigh are taxed as fuck compared to madison and south bend

for instance, in raleigh, jax has pitchers for like 6.50 on sale night...i would never, under any circumstance, have to pay that for a domestic beer on any night here. you dont know cheap until you find that everywhere you go has dollar shot specials, dollar or 2 dollar rail drinks, and 50 cent draft

kegs are also close to half the price they are in raleigh

I don't miss much besides:
Cookout
Bojangles
Cheap Beer (of course, down here my beloved Natty Light is $4.99 a twelve pack)
English-speaking people
Carter-Finley
BBQ
Cheap Bars

That said however, I do love the beach...there just isn't much out here.

notice i said nc in general rather than raleigh specifically. my parents house close to the mountains did have 4 seasons (especially compared to souther louisiana's seasons of "hot" and "almost hot")

I miss seeing a beer with a price tag < $5 and not having it be the happy hour special.

Oh yeah, and I miss Bojangles and Cookout milkshakes.

Amen to that. Monterey, CA is perfect. Rarely gets above 75, never gets cold enough to snow (and even if it did there isn't enough precipitation to have snow), foggy in the summer when it would be the hottest, so it's constantly overcast. Love it, miss it, hate Hawaii.
