http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/10/06/bush.iraq/index.html
Quote : | "President Bush will deliver a "major speech" speech Thursday on the progress of the war in Iraq and the broader conflict against terrorism, the White House said Wednesday.
Bush repeated Wednesday that U.S. troops will leave only when Iraqis are capable of providing for their own security.
"I've told the American people all along our troops will stay there as long as necessary," he said. "We'll do the job. We'll train these folks. And as they become more capable, we'll be able to bring folks home with the honor they've earned."
But Democrats in the Senate said Bush needs to outline a plan for winning the now two-year-old war.
"It's time the president tells us how he plans on getting us out of the hole he's dug us so deeply into. And just to stop digging, as the old saying goes, is not enough," said Sen. Joseph Biden, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The senator from Delaware urged Bush to convene a summit of Iraq's neighbors to hammer out a broader peace for the region, as the United States did in Afghanistan and during the Balkan wars of the 1990s.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Bush must do more than repeat his previous statements.
"We will not accept staying the course," said the Nevada Democrat. "What we do want him to do is answer our questions, to give the American people some outline, some benchmarks, some metrics as to what he expects and what has happened in the past. We are entitled to that information." " |

I've got 8 channels and npr, but can't get any coverage of the speech. How is npr having an old woman talking about some random news article if there is a "major speech" going on? I can't imagine the tv networks and npr didn't notice this speech was going to happen. 10/6/2005 10:21:02 AM |

If he is solidly tieing al qaeda to iraq with proof now and I'm missing the speach I'm going to be unhappy with the level of coverage.10/6/2005 10:23:26 AM |

another major bush black-and-white illogical statement
Quote : | ""The hatred of the radicals existed before Iraq was an issue," Bush said. "And it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse."" |
of course, there's no gradient or difference in the amount of hatred. it existed before and it will exist after. there was no change, whatsoever, because of our invasion of iraq 10/6/2005 10:54:56 AM |

Quote : | "Bush: Terrorists use war in Iraq as 'excuse'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush, in a high-profile address on Thursday, said the war in Iraq did not cause hatred of the United States among radical Muslims, but is an "excuse" to further the goal of creating an Islamic state across the Mideast.
"The hatred of the radicals existed before Iraq was an issue," Bush said. "And it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse."
Opinion polls have found U.S. public support for the Iraq war waning since spring.
Bush made his remarks at a National Endowment for Democracy event in Washington, in what the White House called a "major speech" on the war in Iraq and its role in the broader conflict against terrorism.
"In fact, we're not facing a set of grievances that can be sued and addressed," Bush said.
"We're facing a radical ideology with an unalterable objective, to enslave whole nations and intimidate the whole world."
"No act of ours invited the rage of the killers, and no conscience, bribe or act of appeasement will change or limit or change their plans for murder." " |
Thats all the CNN's article has for coverage of this event before they just start talking about past remarks.
I was really hoping for some of this:
