^^^ i have heard the same thing. they beleive the rust does something similar to cryo-ing to the block.

back in the day they used to burry engines in the ground to strengthen the steel. Call it seasoning. but I only like my seasoning on my chicken. but yes. it's better to machine a block if it's got some age or miles on it first.
