What music did your parents listen to when you were a child that you still like? I'm talking in your pre-teen years.
G 'n' R Beastie Boys Motley Crue (well, don't like them so much now as I did when I was a kid)
Actually I still have the cassette tape of Licensed to Ill, dated 1981 or thereabouts, lying around somewhere. It's the tape my dad bought when it first came out and my friend and I used to listen to it everytime we took a road trip in my truck back in high school. 10/10/2005 9:58:53 AM |

my parents listened to a lot of Eagles and Jimmy Buffett. mom is still obsessed w/ the Eagles, and i like them too, but i'm not as big of a jimmy buffett fan. i really liked america too for a while (mom had the record) oh and alice cooper, my dad had a couple of his records. 10/10/2005 11:21:31 AM |

Ok 86 sorry, I knew it was in the 80's sometime though
My mom was really into Bruce Springsteen and REO Speedwagon. I never cared for either that much. 10/10/2005 12:00:40 PM |

My parents have never listened to music, so I was left to myself to discover it.
Most of my early tastes came from various friends, so I started out with pretty diverse tastes, making mix tapes that had both Skid Row and Public Enemy.
around 1990 or so, I was in a full out grunge phase where I pretty much listened to nothing else for about 5 years before eventually returning to an "anything but country" philosophy that I still subscribe to. 10/10/2005 1:04:54 PM |

Mom listened to mostly oldies; the only one of her musical tastes that has really rubbed off on me would be the Beatles. Dad listened to mostly classic rock, and I ended up liking most of that genre. Favorite groups of his were/are The Guess Who, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne... 10/10/2005 2:09:27 PM |

i grew up hearing my dad playing all kinds of music but he's a dead head so that's the obvious one. cream and eric clapton were big ones...allman brother's...and fleetwood mac. he loved pearl jam, nirvana, soundgarden, live, rem, blues traveler, and counting crows when they all first started out...they aren't necessarily my favorites nowadays but i do still listen to them
my mom on the other hand is a pop/RnB/oldies/beach/motown junkie...so with her it was the temptations, early beatles, four tops...she also liked disco music. i still love that kind of music as well
i got a nice mix from them...but it was my brother who introduced me to hip hop 10/10/2005 2:15:32 PM |

u2 is the only one group i still like for more than one or two songs.
i remember listening to a lot of phil collins/genesis, though i don't care for it much now beyond the nostalgia factor. 10/10/2005 2:25:14 PM |

doowop, beach music, old school soul, motown, elvis, mamas and the papas... pretty much everything on the oldies stations. not much from the 70s, just the 50's and 60's. my dad listens to alot of four part harmony gospel stuff, so i was exposed to that as well.
i have tons of oldies cd's and playlists, as well as gospel stuff sitting around here. i guess its why my music choice is so eclectic... i never turned away from a genre until i absolutely had a reason to.
that said, fuck girls who sing country. nails to a chalkboard with ya landslides and shit. 10/10/2005 3:09:38 PM |

When I was little, all I listened to was Country and maybe a little rock. When I got to middle school, everyone else was listening to rap/grunge, so you were sort of peer pressured into listening to it. When I got to High School, I turned back to what I liked. Now all I listen to is classic rock and country. I like anything except rap and "cry about my life" rock. Anyone else remember when rock was fun? Remember when it was called "rock n roll" and not just rock? 10/10/2005 3:12:17 PM |

My mom only listens to the cheesey, love song, Delilah type music... but I still catch myself turning her on when I am on road trips cause I can sing along with 90% of the music she plays from listening to so much as a kid 10/10/2005 3:18:37 PM |

There were months where my dad would listen to nothing but The Beatles' [i]Hard Days Night[/] and The Traveling Wilburys in the car. Mostly they just listened to the oldies station. Consequently, I really hate oldies stations. 10/10/2005 3:52:47 PM |
