alright, since yall bitch like 13 year old girls about how long you think something should take to do,

lets take a normal everyday repair job, a cv axle on a 94 civic (drivers side if you want to question the procedure)

20-25 min tops (i did this job this very afternoon, so dont even argue, and yes it is from the time the car enters the bay till it leaves, including tool cleanup)

remove wheel, take off axle nut, take off tie rod end and lower balljoint, swing out of the way and pop axle out of transmission, reverse for install, regular old standard shit

post the time you think it would take you to do it, then we can create a time coeffiecient for you. then someone can simply take your estimated time, multiply it by your time (or retard) coefficient and find out how long it actually takes

I understand what you are getting at, but 20 (or even 25) minutes from the time you pull the car in to pulling it out is impossible. Having two techs doubleteaming it, then thats possible I would say. But personally, I am tired of having to go back and fix the mistakes that other mechanics made while doing axle replacements in less than 30 minutes.

If you had all your tools laid out and the axle broke loose of the wheel hub I could see the job being done in about half an hour or so. If you rushed thru it though I have to agree you do risk messing something up. It all depends on how familiar you are with the vehicle. Myself I have been replacing and/or rebuilding the rear diffs in the new explorers on a regular basis. Replacing the pumpkin and driving the vehicle out of the bay can be done in about 45 mins. I try not to focus on how quickly I can get the car done just that I stick to the job at hand and do a quick check or test drive(if necessary) to verify the repair when I am done.

sure, a fast as possible job i could do that in 20-25 minutes or so. doesn't mean it's the right way, and it doesnt mean it applys to all cv shafts. many/most require you to drain the trans oil/fluid. it's also generally good practice to replace the seal at the transmission too any time you change one. btw, this is a gay thread. you've posted ludicrous times for stuff, been called on it, now you're trying to justify it.

who really gives a fuck, if you do it right what does it matter if it takes you 25 mins or 8 hours and a case of beer. just do the work right the first time and no one gives a damn about anyone trying to be a supermechanic.

Jeepman -I was referring to the time it takes to remove the differential out of the vehicle so it could be rebuilt. The rebuilding procedure does take a good bit more time I was just pointing out the time it takes to remove and install a new component as an example.
