Does it really only have 1 rear surround output? Never heard of that.

Sometimes the 1 rear output is only 4ohm impedence, which means it is designed to hook up 2 surround speakers in parallel. It should be labeled as such, or possibly have a switch to change it from 8/4ohm depending on how many speakers you have connected.
