Could be a cool project. Simple X, Y, acceleration monitoring, plus a couple of buttons ...
The real question is how professional do you want it to look? 10/18/2005 9:00:38 PM |

you can buy a complete developers kit from Agilent
http://www.home.agilent.com/cgi-bin/pub/agilent/Product/cp_ProductComparison.jsp?NAV_ID=-536893644.0.00&LANGUAGE_CODE=eng&COUNTRY_CODE=US
lists all their laser mice kits. Same stuff you will find in Logitech/Razer/MS Laser products.
You can make the rest of the mouse out of whatever you like. 10/18/2005 9:44:04 PM |

looks good, I appreciate it. I'll post pics when I finish it. By the way, how much does a kit like that cost, it says call for details. I was just wondering if you knew of the top of your head?
Also, could you take the touch pad out of an old laptop and use that?

turn a touchpad into a mouse? that seems a difficult mod. 10/18/2005 10:05:34 PM |

They have external trackpads, it would be easier to dismantle one of those instead of pulling one out of a laptop. That way you will at least have the easy USB (or PS/2) connectivity that way.

Needlessly difficult - I would only say use a trackpad if you want to encase it in a creative way.

I believe there is a mouse out there with a small trackpad built into it where the wheel usually is. 10/19/2005 9:55:02 AM |

if you buy a kit, you might as well just buy a freaking mouse 10/19/2005 10:21:40 AM |
