One of my friends has a jetta throwing some codes.
anyone have any help they can give?

here are some of the codes listed.

DTC P1297/17705
DTC P1550/17958
5/17963
6/17964
7/17965
P0411/16795

they have something to do with the charge pressure. Im kinda lost as to whats going on so
does anyone have any advice as to what the next step should be? Preferably not taking it to a shop
if possible.

take it to black forest down western in cary, let them scan it & tell you whats wrong/what to do. they're knowledgeable & will be glad to help you figure out what the problem is.

if i knew what those codes meant...

if it is a charge pressure problem, check the charge piping. the "pancake pipe" is known for leaking or having the connections pop off.

P1550/17958
boost pressure, control difference

5/17963
maximum boost pressure exceeded

6/17964
boost pressure regulation, control limit not reached

check the pancake pipe first.

you may have to take the passenger-side front tire off and remove the fender liner to get a good look at it.

When you have boost faults, along with a P0411, often times you have an internally leaking diverter valve. Vacuum test it, it's probably bad.
