state championship this afternoon, some interesting things
fwd 80's riveria can compete alongside the fullsize rwd cars
four cylinder cars on dirt can flip each other over
exploding radiators are cool, disintegrating tires getting flung over the gradstands is not. okay, it is haha heads up.
winning the 4 cylinder class means you get to not wear a shirt the rest of the afternoon
tech inspection is tight was tight this year, at least half a dozen cars werent allowed in

The volvo that ran over matt's hood sheared the distributor out of the head. Friday night the radiator got pushed into the alternator and blew the main fuse. Matt had a friend drive saturday night and then matt drove again sunday. It was a lot of fun even if he didn't do so well.

we missed this year, i couldn't get any help from pwnt or Tuite with the cars. interesting about the riviera... was it actually making/taking some hits or just dodging and weaving? 10/24/2005 10:30:57 AM |

I drove a friends car in the final heat on Friday night, i was in the # 117 blue twodoor Cadillac and didn't have a chance. We didn't know that they put Cady's in the class with the big ass station wagons. I got my ass kicked but i made the first big hit of the heat, after a few hits my rear bumper was in the dirt and the big block kept stalling. Most fun i've had with clothes on in a long time. I'm taking what i learned and building a car next year. this was my first derby and i had no idea what i was missing, serious fun! 10/24/2005 12:43:56 PM |

^^what class would you expect a cadillac to be in (other than a cimarron)? 10/24/2005 3:37:57 PM |

^ seriously.
the riv hung pretty well, taking rear end hits and front fender hits pretty well and trucking through it. even some glancing direct hits to the drive wheels and it didnt break. traction was a problem, getting the car moving on mud with the wheels turned was a chore, and kept him from making enough speed for serious hits to other cars. 10/24/2005 8:22:19 PM |
