set them up in a master and slave config, copy and paste all the stuff
programs will need to be reinstalled (i.e. you cant simply copy and paste *most* programs over)

Why "change" it? Why not just add it to what you already have? 10/26/2005 2:28:53 AM |

When my old computer died (hard drive was still in tact), strangely enough Doom 3 and Ad-Aware were the only programs that were able to be copied/pasted and still run perfectly. 10/26/2005 7:14:27 AM |

Import, you need to pay somebody to come and fix your stuff ... this is like the 5th thread on this crap.
Hard drives if they completely fail, you are SOL. It costs in the order of thousands of dollars to physically recover data off of a hard drive ... usually only affordable by businesses. If it can still turn on and be recognized by the BIOS (again, HIRE somebody to help you), there's still ways of salvaging the data. 10/26/2005 10:19:18 PM |

put the old one in the freezer for a bit... then hook it up as a slave and see what you can retrieve.
If the old drive is readable, you can ghost/rsync the drive.

you could have used norton ghost to create an image of the drive. Thats what i do with my new computers. Install windows, run all updates, install games i play regular, install all apps i use regularly (like macromedia studio 8, Maya 7, photoshop CS2 etc) then run norton ghost and create an image of it on my external drive. This way if i feel like formatting, just boot off the norton ghost CD then link it to your externam drives location for the drive image and presto, you have your computer back just the way you want it without all the hassle. 10/26/2005 11:03:33 PM |
