My mom would be happy if I was happy.

My dad would hate me for it. Which is the same reaction he'd have if I dated a black person. Because he's a wonderful fucking father.

they'd be loving and supportive after some heated discussions
I know it would probably effect them (they're wonderful progressive people but they were also born in the Midwest in the 50's) but the bulk of the conflict would take place out of my presence

Although my mom's a bit homophobic (Catholic) and my dad's the Tim Taylor type, I'm very confident they'd still love and support me.

Awwww.

They'd probably be a little skeptical since I've been very heterosexual all my life. Then again I voted for Kerry so who knows.

my mom had trouble with it at first but now likes him alot.

my dad makes jokes about him being my boyfriend all the while keeping the illusion that we are only roommates... though he knows full well thats not true.

my parents are divorced so their conflicting views of reality don’t have to interact alot, and everybodys happy

^There'd would be a lot of crying from my mother along with an eventual increase in harrassment about going to church or some crap like that. And I'd probably be disowned big time.

My dad would be like "OK, can I borrow 20 bucks?"

my dad would probably ask if i was happy...

my mom asked me if I was gay once...
I wasn't doing well in school that semester, and she thought that was an indication of homosexuality.

Apparently, if you get a C- in thermodynamics you're a fag.

As for the question:
My mom would be supportive.
My dad would disown me.

I wonder if being only an only son would make a difference.

I could see there being a difference for some parents between having three sons and one of them being gay versus having one son and then having him be gay.

Hmmm -- well I've always just downplayed the whole "dating" part and let two plus two equal four. Apparently in point of fact, it usually equals i or some other imaginary/complex number. ;-)

Denial is a very strong force in human nature. I strongly suspect that "acceptance" and "tolerance" (as described here) are in most cases themselves a form of denial.

That reminds me of the movie "Crash" that recently came out on DVD.

Mom would be cool with it, Dad wouldn't be at all.

Non-issue though, unless my wife turns out to be a man after all this time...

my mom would definitely disapprove and whenever confronted would say something like "we don't discuss things like this" and put on some lipstick in her 1950's june cleaver type of way. she'd still love me but i doubt would ever be able to accept it.

my dad would launch into a deep depression and would probably be dysfunctional for quite some time.

Mom would be fairly accepting...

Dad would have to be accepting because of mom.

Honestly, i'd be more concerned with how it would affect their marriage.

Mike
