Its just as stupid now as it was then.
Republicans can't argue that perjury is no big deal now and not look like hypocrites , because they made a HUGE deal out of it when Clinton did it.
So, uh, enjoy the ride. Karma is a bitch.

Democrats CAN'T say what a disgrace the 90s witchhunt was, and then turn around and do the same thing. both sides are making a pretty huge deal out of everything.
and yes, karma will be just as much a bitch for the democrats. 10/29/2005 5:58:58 PM |

There's an appreciable difference between the two cases.
this case involves matters of national security, and does not directly involve the president. 10/29/2005 6:01:08 PM |

Apparently getting head is just as bad as misleading the nation into going into war. 10/29/2005 6:03:06 PM |

But Libby isn't accused of misleading the nation into going into war. He's accused primarily of not hearing about Valerie Plame from Tim Russert.
So a more accurate comparison would be:
"Apparently getting head is just as bad as not talking to Tim Russert."
I'll leave it to the individual readers to decide whether getting head is better or worse than not talking to Tim Russert.

I very much worry that with the evidence that we have seen that grand juries across America are going to start asking questions about what is obstruction of justice, what is perjury. And I don’t want there to be any lessening of the standard. Because our system of criminal justice depends on people telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. That is the lynch pin of our criminal justice system and I don’t want it to be faded in any way." |

If you understood what the motivation might be for "outing" Joe Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, then you would understand the reasons why Libby might perjur himself and obstruct justice.

To show the nation that Wilson was just engaged in his own version of cronyism and grandstanding. Yes, I understood that much. Frankly, I think the nation deserved to know it.
And to be entirely honest, I think Plame's outing was primarily his fault -- he used her to take a political safari.
The attitude from you and others is that Wilson is some kind of saint who walked across the sea and discovered some magical Uber-intelligence contradicting the entire case for the war.
In point of fact, Wilson is a left-wing shill who found a convienent opportunity to pony up a PR piece.

If Wilson was such a shill, why then did Rove, Libby, etc., have to get so bent out of shape about him? Why not just ignore him? 10/29/2005 7:10:23 PM |

Yes.
That's exactly what it is.
It's not like his conversations with Russert prove something else, or anything crazy like that.10/29/2005 7:26:37 PM |
