IMO Bush is trying anything at this point to gain back support. He's pissed off a lot of people who got him into office lately, so he picked the "obvious" candidate this time.

If congress and the states passed an amendment proclaiming that a women's right to an abortion cannot be violated, Scalia would be the first one to strike down any subsequent "law" to the contrary.
