If I pay an alumni fee or whatever it's called, can I still have access to the library? I mainly refer to their electronic subscriptions to various journals. And how much is the fee?

Here's a list of benefits:

No mention, but it may be a good starting point.

I don't think the alumni association membership fee has anything to do with library subscriptions.

^^ Already checked that. You're right , the library isn't mentioned there, and the rest is worthless to me.

I don't think joining the "Friends of the Library" would enable him to access electronic subscriptions either.

yeah, apparently all you have to have is an NCSU IP address or a unity ID for journal access.

OK, how do I keep my Unity ID? It's working so far, but I'm sure they'll close it soon.

Sonia would probably be the best person to answer this query.

"3) If you have been given an official leave of absence from graduate
school:

Have your advisor email us at "accounts@ncsu.edu" advising us of the
situation and providing your Unity userid and the date the leave
expires. Upon receipt, we will extend Unity account access to you during
your leave of absence.

4) You are currently working with a department on campus but are not on
the the University payroll:

Your department can enter you into the Peoplesoft HR system as a "No
Pay" employee so that you can maintain your account access. As long as
you have an active assignment in the HR system, your account will remain
active."

Looked like your best chances from: http://help.ncsu.edu/solutions/all/3071.php

I wonder if working with a department includes active collaborations with faculty on campus.

basically all you ned is an ID from the library if you are working here, like even the Atrium staff can check out books. The friends of the library can be expensive if you don't plan to use it often but it can be cheaper depending on where you work.

Officially:

Quote :
"Restrictions: Some of the NCSU Libraries' electronic resources are available remotely only to the core NC State University community of faculty, staff, and students in accordance with the most current terms of the license governing the particular resource. Individuals not authorized by the license to connect to a specific resource from off campus may access the resource via computers located at D. H. Hill Library or any of the four branch libraries. The NCSU Libraries updates its authentication system periodically in accordance with its many license agreements. For this reason, users may experience occasional changes in their ability to access certain resources. Alternatively, the NCSU Libraries offer document delivery services for materials in our collections. "

Friends of the Library get a lot of benefits, but may not be what you're looking for if you need electronic resources. You can join as a friend for $50 and another $15 will cover your borrowing privileges for a year. FoL doesn't cover Interlibrary or Tripsaver services.
