in the whole facebook picture deal. I dont want to argue whether or not its legal or not, that has been done to death. However, I would venture to say a very large number of students on campus feel that these pictures should not have been used against these students. So, isnt it the senates job to represent the students, and therefore oppose what is happening to these guys

Are you kidding?

The school senate represents themselves in regards to an additional line on their resume, nothing more.

If I were more interested in politics, I am pretty sure I'd be a better motivator and advocate for change than anyone else that has been through the system in awhile.

I can't remember any time since I enterred college that there was a radical in a power position that might actually do something for students rather than being a mouthpeice for the administration.

state409, im not saying will they represent the students. I am saying should they. And I agree, them being a mouthpiece for the administration is a load of crap.

Should they? Depends.

If the entire issue is going to get boiled down to the "OMG you can't use digital pictures as evidence! You just can't!!1" then [no], they should keep their mouths shut and avoid eroding their already limited credibility.

If they can actually address the whole issue ("Hey using digital pictures is fucked up...and by the way so is everything else with this process considering you had a rogue RA everyone's defending without question while wrapping all of it in secrecy, unprofessionalism and condescension") then yeah, they should do something.

Yes it is the job of the student senators to represent the students. No, they don't have to necessarily oppose what happened, your therefore isn't drawing a valid conclusion.

If you are concerned, have you tried contacting a couple of senators yet? I'd actually like to hear what they have to say on the subject.

It's college politics - of course they don't. It's got just as much significance as high school politics. It's just something for students to do with their time.

^that's a rather negative view. Student senate and other student leaders have been very effective in making sure that any new funds, tuition increase or otherwise are going toward more services for you. In the last tuition increase, part of the funds went to improve advising, tutoring and undergraduate fellowship and research opportunities for students. Fees and tuition may get increased, but I assure you they are fighting hard to minimize negative impact on students and to get you more services for your investment.

^and past people in student government have fought against raising tuition. but apparently not the current people, especially the pres. What was it he said, "if ya need more money, we are willing to give it to ya?" Or something along those lines.

^^ This to me doesn't really make a lot of sense and I don't think I need to be up on all the minute details to make an observation.

You are saying that increases are being created from somewhere, but student senate is making sure students get the money.

So does the board just say "We need more money, but we are not sure what for" and then all parties involved fight over it?

Maybe you need to explain this a little better to someone that can't see into the proceeding with a microscope, because it is a little murky at this point how funds are requested and appropriated...based on what you have stated here.
