I've decided I can't be a backpacker anymore. I don't even really like Del, The Last Emperor, or MF Doom (though I still think the fact he did an album with characters from Adult Swim is a cool concept).

but yeah, I don't get what's great about Doom sometimes, other than that he has endless volumes of rhymes. His flow is reeeaaally mechanical.

btw, the beats you like are Madlib's shit. He's also hit or miss, but that album is strong

And Doom could really lay off the cheesy superhero villain samples/skits. I swear, on Operation Doomsday, I don't even hear the songs anymore, it just goes from skit to skit when I'm listening.

I guess I just don't like that if you profess to be a fan of "underground" hiphop, then there's this prescribed list of cats that you're automatically supposed to be buck wild about. I mean, sure I'll sing the praises of Def Jux, Rhymesayers, and Living Legends crews, cuz the majority of the guys on those labels are dope as hell, but I'm not gonna categorically ride the collective jock of anyone who somehow manages to be labelled both underground and trendy. (and yes, I know Doom is on Rhymesayers now)
