Top shooting guard staying close to home.

At least he didn't go to Maryland.

We don't need anymore shooting guards.

We need a fucking point guard.

This kid is 2007...which means Bennerman and Atsur will no longer be here.

He was a top shooting guard and would have been a huge pickup.

We're recruiting a lot of good point guards in this class. We lead for Chris Wright...one of the tops in the class. Then there's Nate McMillan's kid who I personally think would commit to us in a heartbeat if we offered (he's consensus top-100).

We are sitting well with a lot of the point guards in that class. This commitment would have been big for us. Now we have to focus our attention on other players.

good for Georgetown. I like seeing traditional powers rising again. Kind of like us!

The Hoyas are going to be VERY VERY good very soon with another Thompson at the helm.

I haven't seen an official story yet anywhere, but the rumors are flying all over the place.

It's official.

There are some pay sites with a story on it. I think the N&O has reported it too. But you have to log-in to get the story.

Quote :
"The Georgetown Hoyas reached out in the local community and kept one of their own home. Austin Freeman, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who occupies the No. 24 slot in Scout.com’s latest junior rankings, committed to Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon.
Freeman, the 6th-highest rated wing guard in the junior class, had been strongly considering Georgetown, North Carolina State, Maryland and Notre Dame.

The Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic is a good enough basketball player that he could legitimately play for anyone in the country. Blessed with a strong hoops IQ, a versatile game and a steady shot, Freeman is a strong high-major recruit.

“A kid like Austin, he doesn’t need a particular school,” Freeman’s AAU coach Curtis Malone of D.C. Assault said. “He does what all the coaches need at every school and that’s put the ball in the basket. He can really score.”

Georgetown, which flexed its muscle on the recruiting trail this fall as it scored the nation’s No. 13 recruiting class. Vernon Macklin, DaJuan Summers and Jeremiah Rivers are on board for this season and Freeman’s commitment gives them a little local muscle to sell to the next group.

“I guess this thing with Austin could show a lot of other kids from the area that they don’t have to go away and leave for school when they could just go here,” Malone said. “I mean with Maryland and Georgetown they have two good schools right here. With Georgetown getting a possible McDonald’s All-American in Austin, it’s a good thing for Georgetown.”
