Anyone know if/when the Passat is going to carry the TDI here in the states?
I really like what they have done with the car, and have been considering getting one, but I only want the diesel.

Maybe I'm thinking '05, but I thought they had a slightly larger TDI in the Passat. Auto was your only choice though if that was a concern ( I think).

the passat is extremely unreliable. It has some build problems that have not been solved, apparently. Otherwise, I would look hard at getting one.

Yes, the '05 had a diesel, automatic only. I have seen that Europe is getting a TDI with DSG shiftbox. I was just wondering if anyone knew if that was coming to the US.

^ Yeah, I know they have had some problems with the Passat. Same with the Jettas. However, I have a TDI Jetta, and it seems VW's diesels don't suffer the same problems as the gas versions.

you can do that in most cars.

just use a good synthetic and get your oil tested every now and then.

getting oil tested is just as inconvenient as an oil change. The main thing is that diesels just don't require as much maintenance, not to mention the insane fuel economy.

i agree.

while it is inconvenient, it's just a part of preventative maint. of course you would have to care about doing most of the work on the car yourself to even consider testing the oil.
