You'll be fine. I spent 2 weeks there with a French family and traveled around there recently. They arent going to beat you However, everyone will be asking you about the U.S. and about politics. Hope you are politically aware enough to carry on that type of discussion, because you will get them ad nauseum.

well i mean they're from france so they obviously all think alike
y'know, just like we do.
they're people. classifying them into a general believe is a waste of time. every one of them thinks differently about everything... even Bush. so don't worry about it. i'm going to paris, prague, london, and maybe austria in the spring, and i'm not the least bit worried about any of this stuff. boston or berlin, a person's a person. 11/16/2005 1:54:47 AM |

Well, let's see. 1. You don't know Chirac's name. 2. You voted for Bush. 3. You have no idea that Bush is almost universally despised.
You should definitely not go to France. In fact, there's pretty much no place outside of the USA that you'd be welcome. Stay home and don't reproduce, the world has far too many ugly Americans as it is.11/16/2005 8:30:58 AM |

Hmm.. if you were savvy enough, you could always dodge around who you voted for. I did that the few times I was overseas (and when I did get cornered into admitting, I had a very long debate about American foreign policy).
Don't worry about the riots. As long as you stay out of the suburbs/ghettos (and believe me, you won't end up there unless you're intentionally trying to go there), you don't have to worry about violence. You're pretty safe throughout western Europe (minus the pickpockets, and believe me, they're all over the place looking for tourists). 11/16/2005 9:55:18 AM |

I actually found the french really open minded (unlike a lot of Americans). I voted for Bush, and I really changed a lot of their thinking on a lot of issues. They werent just being polite. They actually wanted to understand what was going on. Had political discussions go on for hours many times. Now, the spanish I met were very opinionated, and it didnt matter how weak the argument they had, you werent going to enlighten them with different views.
